Rally for Recovery! – September 25, 2010

We’ve been getting calls and emails from groups around the country wondering about the date for 2010’s Rally for Recovery! Please mark your calendar for September 25, 2010, wrapping up Recovery Month observances. Faces & Voices monthly rally organizing calls will be starting up in early 2010. We look forward to working with you to make 2010’s Rally for Recovery! the largest ever and to building our non-partisan civic engagement campaign, Recovery Voices Count, into your 2010 activities.

FY 2010 Federal Funding Update

The US Senate and House of Representatives have passed the FY 2010 omnibus spending bill, wrapping up work on funding for federal agencies including the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (Labor HHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ). Learn more...

PAR - People Advocating Recovery, Kentucky’s statewide recovery community organization, has been active in a campaign to educate the public and policymakers about issues concerning women who are pregnant and using drugs and parenting. They hosted a Webinar, and have posted information from the KY Supreme Court heard a case about a KY woman who has been charged with wanton endangerment. Click here for powerpoints, and other information. Two other women in Franklin County, KY have been charged with endangerment for taking drugs while pregnant. PAR was also involved in Singing for Democracy promoting the restoration of voting rights in Kentucky.

SAMHSA Administrator Pam Hyde’s introduction to organizations working to promote addiction and mental illness prevention, treatment and recovery was hosted by Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and can be listened to online.

“What are your priorities right now? Identifying service needs across recovery stages to inform service development,” by Alexandre B. Laudet and William White, discusses the necessity of engaging people in recovery in the development of a recovery-oriented model of care to address individual employment, education, housing and other needs under a chronic-care model of sustained recovery management.

Seizing the Moment: Frank Advice for Community Organizers Who Want to Raise More Money, by Aaron Dorfman & Marjorie Fine was prepared for the Chicago Community Organizing Summit, “From Saul Alinsky to Barack Obama and Beyond …” and is full of tips and strategic advice for planning and systematically leveraging more support for their work.

The National Quality Forum’s A Path Forward to Measuring Continuing Care Management for Substance Use Illness: Patient-Focused Episodes of Care project recently held a workshop exploring what constitutes optimal care for individuals. Faces & Voices presented the consumer/patient perspective.
