House Representative Talks to Inmates About Crack Addiction

10 years and 364-days is how long Florida Representative Darryl Rouson has stayed sober and now he's going jail to jail trying to inspire other addicts.

The same brown paper bag in which he used to carry crack cocaine, Rouson now uses to carry his sobriety journal to share with fellow users.

Inmates at the Leon County Jail listened to Representative Rouson's story Monday March 16th and had the chance to ask him questions about his journey to recovery.

"The only huge difference between me and them is that I should probably be where they are. But for whatever reason, God had his hand on me and I think it was to do just this, to come back and give back," said Rep. Darryl Rouson, (D) St. Petersburg, Florida.

"I used to sell an ounce everyday. I snort seven grams a day at least. And thank you Lord, thank you God for putting me in jail to stop doing drugs," said Marwan Sinno, Leon County inmate.

Every year before his sobriety anniversary, Representative Rouson goes to different groups, including jails, to share his story and hopefully help out someone on a similar path.
