Recovery Stories
Donnamaria's Story

May 15th, 1994 is the day that I surrendered. I was stopped by a chronic eye disorder that altered my life forever. I knew that this condition was caused by my addiction to alcohol resulting in destructive behavior. After five years of sobriety my efforts to improve my life led me back to college. In six years, I was able to earn a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a Masters in Counseling. And today I counsel individuals who are trapped in cycles of destruction. I belong to AlAnon and CODA, and act as a volunteer for several arts organizations and non-profits that advocate for change. The 12-steps and the 12 Traditions have given me an abundant life.
