Recovery Stories
Richard K's Story

My recovery and return to a life of sobriety began the day I was arrested: April 28, 1989. I was initially charged with three felonies related to possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, with intent to distribute. At the time, I was an addict and a dealer. Being arrested was the best thing that could ever have happened to me. I was forced to do a honest self-assessment and acknowledge and accept my addiction after fifteen years of lying about and denying it to the people who loved me the most in spite of, and ultimately myself. That process enabled the start of my recovery and ultimate return to a sober, happy, law-abiding, and productive life for the past 27 years.
