Four years after almost dying from a crack cocaine overdose, surviving a violent marriage that ended in rape, and dropping out of a masters in art therapy from NYU, I finally walked into 12 step recovery. At that time I began creating my own art to express, deal, and heal. I am also the family member of someone who almost died from opioids. I was anonymous until July 2015 when I testified at the MD Emergency Opioid/Heroin Task Force. Because of recovery, I am now the founder and owner of Recovery Art Studio and author of the recovery novel, Gift of Desperation, where I share the healing power of art. Today I am proud to recover out loud to help others.
