Read Mark Wills' Story
Alcohol drowned (most of) my feelings of shame and loneliness: I didn't care what people thought and I wasn't alone because I was in a bar. It wasn't until I entered long-term recovery that I could adequately address those issues by actively engaging in the 12 Steps (and, truth be told, in concert with outside help) and trying to make whole that which had been broken for so long. Several years in, I'm more in touch with my life, my emotions and the world around me than I could ever have thought possible. Life needn't be a nightmare and it won't always be a dream, but I won't sleepwalk through my days anymore, thanks to long-term recovery and the people who make it possible.
