Faces & Voices of Recovery invites you to a FREE virtual training sponsored by the Opioid Response Network. This Leadership Forum is a training that will examine how and why shifthappen in the addiction recovery movement, factors that drive success, and strategies that advocacy groups and leadership can employ to effect wide-scale change. We’ll explore leadership styles, supervision, servant leadership, mentoring a new generation of leaders, and keys to sustaining momentum.  

This is a great learning opportunity around leadership development and advocacy. Students, interns, faith leaders, managers, directors, advocates, harm reduction programs, public officials, policymakers, researchers, prevention specialists, medical professionals, law enforcement, criminal justice, treatment providers, people in recovery, family members, and allies. 

Guest Speaker

 

Juan Vélez Court is a person in long-term recovery from a mental health condition and currently works as the peer support services coordinator for the Mental Health and AntiAddiction Services Administration of Puerto Rico. Mr. Vélez builds public awareness regarding mental health and substance use challenges, with the goal of reducing discrimination and prejudice that exists towards the population. He also works to promote person-centered treatment and self-care activities. He has worked with BRSS TACS and ABT Associates as a consultant for peer support efforts. He is a member of SAMHSA’s Recovery Month planning partners committee and has extensive experience working for a Systems of Care program, supporting children, adolescents, and their families through support groups and community engagement efforts. He is also a certified peer specialist, as well as a certified trainer, and continues to empower others through capacity building, leadership development, and collaborative activities with non-profit organizations.
