Here’s who controls the $50 billion opioid settlement funds in each state

A recent article featured on NPR discusses the ownership of the $50 billion opioid settlement funds in state and local governments. These state councils determine how the funds are used, they can be used from anything, such as improvement for addiction treatment programs and recovery houses, or for more funding for narcotics detectives and prisons. The growing concern is that many council members lack first-hand knowledge and experience with substance use disorders and are unaware of what their districts and constituents really need.
