Technical Assistance isn’t technology support—its specialized consultation designed to help organizations thrive. At its core, TA means providing expert guidance, resources, and solutions to strengthen programs, improve outcomes, and build sustainable capacity.

The National Recovery Institute (NRI) offers both on-site and virtual TA for recovery support organizations nationwide. Our mission is to enhance the quality of peer service delivery and empower organizations to align with national standards through practical, actionable strategies.

Strategic Organizational Development Technical Assistance (SODTA)

Building strong foundations for sustainable growth – Our technical assistance meets organizations where they are. We start with a comprehensive assessment of your capacity and infrastructure, then design a customized TA plan. You’ll work with subject matter experts who provide practical guidance from concept to operations—helping you build sustainability and track measurable outcomes.

Three tiers of support:

  • Tier I: Early development
  • Tier II: Newly established organizations
  • Tier III: Operational development

If your needs fall outside these tiers, we’ll connect you with experienced peer professionals who can provide tailored support in the format that works best for you.

Specialized Consultation

Data-driven insights for smarter decisions – Our consultation services leverage research, surveys, interviews, and focus groups to uncover systemic trends and challenges. We provide a detailed summary report with actionable recommendations to:

Technical Assistance Engagement Multipliers

Expanding access and deepening impact – We offer flexible engagement options to increase reach and customize support for your community and workforce:

  • Open Office Hours (OOH): Monthly sessions for quick access to TA and membership services, intake questionnaires, and clarifications with our staff.
  • Virtual Learning Communities (VLCs): Focused online spaces for networking and shared learning on recovery topics. Each session includes:
  • A 15-minute topic overview led by a trained facilitator
  • A 45-minute interactive discussion for questions, ideas, and collaboration

Three Tiered Approach

NRI offers a three-tiered approach to technical assistance to assure the organization requesting have their needs met. There is no fee for initial consultation. If you’re not sure of your technical assistance needs, contact us and we will provide free consultation and assessment to help you clarify your priorities, or simply call to speak with one of our advisors.

  • One time Consultation
  • Facilitation of virtual presentations
  • Sharing products such as research papers and toolkits and resources
  • Facilitation of strategic planning or other labor intensive one-time events
  • Facilitation of on-going conference calls on single or multiple topics designed around the needs of the organization or network
  • Facilitation of learning communities or community best practices
  • An on-going relationship between the National Recovery Institute and the TA recipient to provide specific TA in accordance with the plan developed by both parties
  • Focus on the goal of result in changing policy, programming, practices and/or operations to increase outcomes and capacity for the organization, network or community.
  • May include a combination of conference calls, virtual meetings, event preparation, resource sharing and on-site visits.
