[ORN] Workforce Multiplier Series: Peer Support for OUD, Stimulant & Polysubstance Use – Motivational Interviewing for Peer Empowerment

July 09, 2026

This training introduces Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a person-centered communication approach that empowers individuals to explore and strengthen their own motivation for change.  Participants learn the core principles of MI, including partnership, acceptance, compassion, and evocation, along with key concepts such as ambivalence, change talk, reactance, and the “righting reflex.” The training includes hands-on practice using MI techniques to support behavior change conversations in peer settings.

Funding for this initiative was made possible (in part) by grant no. 1H79TI088037 from SAMHSA. The views expressed in written conference materials or publications and by speakers and moderators do not necessarily reflect the official policies of the Department of Health and Human Services; nor does mention of trade names, commercial practices, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
